Les chutes d’Iguaçu : l’eau entre deux pays

Iguaçu Falls: Water Between Two Countries

Iguaçu Falls are not one simple waterfall. They are a wide group of waterfalls on the Iguaçu River, on the border of Argentina and Brazil. From the air, the river looks like a large gray sheet of water. Then it breaks into many white falls around green islands and rocky land. Mist rises above several of the drops. The highest fall is about 82 meters high. This view helps us understand what makes Iguaçu Falls unusual. Water is falling in many places at the same time, not in one narrow line. Forest covers both sides of the river, so the white water stands out strongly against the deep green trees. Near the bottom, the separate streams join the river again. The falls are therefore both a border landscape and a powerful natural place. From above, the river’s many channels are easy to see.
