A Golden Sphere Beneath a Painted Dome
Look up at the Armillary Sphere at the Venetian. It is a large golden sculpture with many wide, curved rings. The rings cross one another and create an open, round form instead of a solid ball. You can see through the artwork from different sides. Two golden human figures stand on the left and right sides of the sphere. Other golden shapes decorate the lower part. Some rings have dark marks and small patterns. Bright lights make the gold shine. The sculpture stands inside a richly decorated room. Behind it, you can see tall columns, arches, and blue and cream wall panels. Above the sculpture, a painted dome shows people, clouds, and strong gold and white patterns. Several visitors stand near the base. Can you find the small red signs near the walls? Can you see the detailed designs on the rings? What shapes can you see inside the sphere?Sources & licenses
