Ailuridae: Eine ungewöhnliche Säugetierfamilie

Ailuridae: A Curious Mammal Family

One unusual name in animal science is Ailuridae. It is described as a monotypic family of mammals. The word “monotypic” makes this family sound special, but the source does not give more details about its structure. The picture shows a red panda resting on a rope bridge. Look closely at its beautiful pattern. Most of its back is reddish brown. Its legs and lower body are very dark. The face is lighter, with white cheeks and pale edges around the ears. Dark marks appear near the eyes, nose, and mouth. Long whiskers extend from the face. The animal looks toward the right side of the picture. The bridge has many short wooden pieces. Thick ropes hold the pieces together. Behind the animal, the background is soft and green-brown. Which color do you notice first: reddish brown, black, white, or green? Can you find the pale fur inside the ears? Ailuridae is a short name, but the image gives us many details to observe.
