Chefchaouen: Morocco’s Blue Mountain City
Chefchaouen is a small city in Morocco’s Western Rif mountains. It lies in the Akhmas region and covers about 15.4 square kilometers. Around 31,410 people live there. The city is easy to recognize in a photograph. Many houses and buildings are painted blue and white. From a distance, Chefchaouen looks like a blue blanket spread across a green mountain slope. Its streets and homes climb the hillside. Behind them, the Rif mountains stretch toward the horizon. In the picture, a bright blue sky appears above the city, with large white and gray clouds. Green trees and a few red-roofed buildings add different colors. Chefchaouen began in 1471. Today, its unusual blue buildings and mountain setting make it a memorable place to visit. Walking through the city means going up and down many streets and enjoying wide views of the surrounding landscape.Sources & licenses
