Zhangjiajie: A City Between Buildings and Mountains
Zhangjiajie is a prefecture-level city in Hunan, China. Its name may bring to mind wide natural views, but this picture shows another side of the city: a busy urban center. In the foreground, a broad street crosses the scene. Many cars wait near a large red sign, and several people are visible around the road. Shops and signs fill the lower buildings. Behind them stand many taller apartment or office buildings. Low, misty mountains form a soft line in the distance. Snow covers some roofs and parts of the street, giving the city a quiet winter appearance. Zhangjiajie has about 1,537,900 people. The city’s area is listed as 9,533.77 square kilometres. This makes it much larger than the central view in the photograph. The image therefore offers a small, practical look at a large Chinese city: traffic, shops, homes, tall buildings, and mountains together in one scene.Sources & licenses
