L’axolotl: una salamandra dalla coda lunga

The Axolotl: A Salamander with a Long Tail

An axolotl may look like a small underwater creature from a story, but the source gives a simple fact: it is a species of salamander. This image lets us study its unusual shape closely. The animal has a long, low body. Its head is wide, and its small eyes are near the front. Short legs rest below the body. A long tail continues behind it. The skin has dark brown, gray, cream, and black areas. Light spots and larger pale patches make a pattern along the back and tail. The animal is partly in water, and small bubbles appear around it. Why does this salamander look so different? Its wide head, short legs, and long tail create a clear outline. Look at the picture again. Can you find the legs? Which part is darkest: the head, the body, or the tail? One source records its mass as “+8,” but the unit is not named. We should not guess the exact weight.
