Torres del Paine: A Park of Towers and Ice

Torres del Paine National Park is in southern Chilean Patagonia. It is famous for a remarkable mountain view. Three tall, sharp rock towers rise above the landscape. Their name, “Torres del Paine,” means the Towers of Paine. The park also has snow-covered mountains, green hills, and blue water. In the picture, Laguna Azul lies in the foreground. Behind it, the Paine massif stands under a bright blue sky. The strong contrast between the water, grass, snow, and dark rocks makes the view special. Torres del Paine became a national park on May 13, 1959. It covers about 2,400 square kilometers, so it is a very large protected natural place. Visitors can see mountains, lakes, glaciers, and wide open spaces there. The park is an important destination for people who enjoy walking and dramatic scenery. It shows how varied the landscape of Patagonia can be in one place.
