Bagan: Temples Across an Ancient Landscape
Bagan is an ancient city and archaeological site in Myanmar. It covers about 104 square kilometers, making it a large historic area. The city dates to around the year 200, although the exact date is not certain. About 22,000 people are listed as living in Bagan. What makes Bagan special is not one famous building. It is the wide landscape filled with old temples. In the image, brick temples stand among green trees and fields. Some are small and simple. Others are tall, with careful, symmetrical shapes. Many buildings can be seen at the same time, stretching toward distant hills. At sunset, warm light can make the brick temples look orange and red. Long shadows move across the fields. This view shows how archaeology and nature meet in Bagan. A visit is therefore more than a look at a single monument. It is a chance to see an entire historic city spread across open land.Sources & licenses
