Narwhal: The Arctic Whale with a Long Tusk
A narwhal is a medium-sized toothed whale. It lives year-round in the Arctic, so it stays in this northern region in every season. This is one of the animal’s most unusual features. The narwhal is also easy to recognize. A long tusk extends from the front of its head. In the photograph, the tusk points to the left as the whale swims near the surface. We see the animal from above. Its body is pale gray, with darker marks along its back, and dark water surrounds it. A narwhal has a mass of 80 kilograms, according to the supplied information. It is a whale, not a fish. The word “toothed” tells us that it belongs to the group of whales with teeth. The Arctic home and the long tusk make the narwhal a remarkable animal. Even from a distance, its shape is easy to identify.Sources & licenses
