Göbekli Tepe: A Neolithic Site in Turkey
Göbekli Tepe is a Neolithic archaeological site in Turkey. It is an unusually old place. Its beginning is dated to about 10,000 BCE, so it is nearly 12,000 years old. The site covers about 126 hectares. In the photograph, we can see a wide, dry landscape under a clear blue sky. The ground is brown and rocky. Excavated areas contain large stone pillars, low stone walls, and many smaller stones. Some areas are protected by simple roofs or covers. Göbekli Tepe is unusual because it is a very large archaeological site from the Neolithic period. It shows the remains of people who lived many thousands of years ago. Archaeologists study the site to learn more about early human history in Turkey. Today, Göbekli Tepe is a famous place for visitors and researchers. Its ancient stones stand in the open landscape, connecting the present with a very distant past.Sources & licenses
