Plitvice Lakes National Park: A Special Date in Croatia
Plitvice Lakes National Park has a special date: 8 April 1949. On that day, it began as a national park in Croatia. Today, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park covers 296.85 square kilometres. This is a large natural area, but the most surprising part is how much water appears in one view. In the image, clear blue-green lakes sit between green hills and steep rocky cliffs. Water falls from one level to another, making bright white waterfalls. Trees cover much of the landscape, so the lakes and falls look like small windows in a green forest. The picture also shows a narrow path or bridge near the water. It gives visitors a close view of the falls. Plitvice is unusual because lakes, cliffs, forests, and waterfalls share the same dramatic scene. Its national-park history and UNESCO status make this Croatian natural place especially important.Sources & licenses
