L’antico computer di Anticitera

The Ancient Computer from Antikythera

At first glance, the Antikythera mechanism looks like a dark, broken piece of metal. Its green and brown surface is rough, and several round shapes are visible. Some parts look like small wheels. This old object was not a modern computer, but it was an ancient analog computer. It was designed to calculate astronomical positions. The mechanism was discovered on May 17, 1901. Today, it is known by the name Antikythera mechanism. Its fragments show a complex machine, although the photograph shows only one damaged part. You can see holes, curved edges, and layers of metal inside the fragment. What do you notice first: the green color, the round shapes, or the broken edges? This object is unusual because people in the ancient world made a machine for studying the sky. It connects technology with astronomy. We cannot see every part in this image, but the visible fragment still looks like a small, mysterious machine.
