Teotihuacan: A Vast Ancient City in Mexico
Teotihuacan is an ancient Mesoamerican city in Mexico. Today, it is an important archaeological site. One surprising fact is its size: the site covers more than 250 square kilometers. That is much larger than many people expect from an ancient city. The photograph shows a large stepped monument at the center of a wide landscape. Its dark sides rise in several levels, like a huge stone staircase. Long, straight paths lead around it. Green fields and smaller remains spread across the area. In the distance, a mountain stands behind the city, and light mist covers part of the view. Teotihuacan is unusual because its ancient remains cover such a large area. The photograph also shows how the city is connected to its natural setting. It is not only one monument. It is a broad archaeological landscape with major structures, roads, open land, and mountains. Visitors can see the impressive scale of this ancient city in Mexico.Sources & licenses
